CNC Material Applications and Processing Characteristics for Metal Components
Commonly Used Metal Materials
Aluminum alloy: lightweight, easy to machine, and highly thermally conductive—making it widely used in 3C electronic products and drone structural components.
Stainless steel: highly corrosion-resistant and boasts high mechanical strength, but it’s also very hard, has low thermal conductivity, and is relatively difficult to machine.
Copper: Excellent in electrical and thermal conductivity, but it tends to stick to cutting tools, so surface finish must be carefully controlled.
Titanium alloy: High strength, corrosion-resistant, and commonly used in aerospace and medical applications.
Processing Characteristics and Precautions
Aluminum alloy: It is recommended to use high-speed steel or coated carbide tools, combined with high-speed lubrication and cooling, for optimal surface finish.
Stainless steel: Requires specialized tools (such as coated blades), a forced cooling system, and optimized feed rates along with cutting depth.
Copper: Use sharp tools with a larger cutting angle to increase feed rates and reduce chip adhesion. Post-processing steps include deburring, electroplating, or polishing.
